New MozyHome Plans:

Frequently Asked Questions
With our updated price plans you can choose the
service level consistent with your needs.
Why is Mozy changing its MozyHome pricing model?
The answer is really threefold:

We are all Capturing More Photos and Videos
A behavioral shift towards capturing more of life’s experiences as digital photos and videos coupled with an ever increasing media quality has caused the demand for raw storage to increase geometrically.

Multiple Machines the Norm
Households and individuals are using more and more computers and digital devices today which necessitated a move to multi-device friendlier pricing plans.

No Fine Print Backup
In an attempt to remain viable in the “Unlimited backup” business, other providers have introduced measures to inhibit the growth of storage such as bandwidth throttling, excluding files over a certain size, or exclude certain file types such as photos and videos from the default backup sets. Rather than claiming to offer “unlimited” backup while imposing bandwidth or file limitations, we want you, our users, to decide what you want backed up and in return Mozy will provide you the best possible service level, with no hidden restrictions.

Therefore we created tiered plans designed to fit our customers’ needs. The vast majority will fit comfortably within the 50 GB plan. Those with larger collections or multiple computers will find the 125 GB plan meets their needs. Those who require even more can add 20 GB increments to their base plan.

When do these new plans take effect?
New MozyHome customers

The new plans take effect for new MozyHome customers on Mozy.com effective January 31, 2011.

Existing MozyHome customers

While the new plans take effect for new customers immediately, we want to ensure our existing subscribers have sufficient notice, so these plans will begin to take effect for them on March 1, 2011. Furthermore, existing customers will be allowed to keep their unlimited backup plans for the duration of their current monthly, annual, or biennial plans, and will migrate to a new plan at the end of the term. Existing customers who choose to re-enroll in either an annual or biennial subscription will receive an additional month free beyond the customary discount for these subscriptions.

How long do I get to keep my Unlimited subscription?
Existing customers will be allowed to keep their unlimited backup plans for the duration of their current monthly, annual, or biennial plans, and will migrate to a new plan at the end of the term. Existing customers who choose to re-enroll in either an annual or biennial subscription will receive an additional month free beyond the customary discount for these subscriptions.

I’m ready to move to one of the new plans! How do I do so?
Log in to your account at Mozy.com, click on the “my plan” link to choose a plan or to make adjustments. All changes will take effect on your first renewal date after March 1, 2011.

What if I don’t select a new plan by my next renewal date?
To ensure continued data protection, we’ll renew you into a new plan which best fits your current backup needs, if no action is taken by your renewal date. For users with very large amounts of data, we don’t think it’s appropriate to auto-renew into a cost-prohibitive plan, so these accounts will be suspended with no further charges, if no action is taken by renewal.

Are you raising prices on MozyPro?
No.

How does this change affect MozyPro customers?
This change does not affect MozyPro customers in any way.

When I renew into the 50 GB or 125 GB plan, will I need to upload all of my data again?
No.

What happens when I reach my storage capacity? Will you stop backing up my new data?
Most customers will find the new plans sufficient for their needs. When approaching your limit, the Mozy software will warn you in advance that more storage is needed. You can easily purchase additional space in increments of 20 GB for $2 per month. If you eventually reach your limit and no action is taken, your backups will be paused. Adding additional space, or adjusting your backup sets to stay within your backup limit, will cause backups to resume. In either scenario, any files already backed up are always safe.

How do I purchase more space as my backup needs grow?
As you approach capacity, the Mozy service will start to warn you that more storage is needed. You always have the option to upgrade to a larger plan or purchase additional space in 20GB increments. Simply log in to your Mozy account and select the “my plan” link to add additional resources.

Do all the computers use the same storage?
Yes, all the computers share the same storage. For example, if two computers on the 125 GB plan are each backing up 50 GB, then 100 GB of the 125 GB storage are in use, leaving 25 GB unallocated

Is there a limit to the amount of incremental storage that you can add to an account?
No, you can add on as much additional backup space as you want for the price of $2 / month per 20 GB.

I have 65 GB of data to back up – can I buy the $5.99 package and add 20GB for $2?
Yes.

How many computers can I back up with my 125 GB plan?
The 125 GB plan includes backup for up to 3 computers. You can add additional computers at the cost of $2 / month per computer with a maximum of 5 computers on one account.

How many computers can I backup with my 50 GB plan?
The 50 GB plan includes backup for 1 computer. You can add additional computers at the cost of $2 / month per computer with a maximum of 5 computers on one account.

Is there a limit to the number of computers you can add to an account?
There is a limit of 5 computers per account. If you need more than 5 computers, we suggest you look into our MozyPro offering, which allows you to back up as many computers as you like and manage those backups via a web-based administrative console.

I currently have multiple computers being backed up by Mozy and I want to transfer them all onto one $9.99 account. Can I do that or will I have to upload the data all over again?
If the computers are all associated with the same Mozy account, you can easily do this and will not be required to re-upload any files. If the computers signed up for Mozy using different email accounts then you will need to cancel one account, add that computer to the other existing account, at which point Mozy will re-upload the data.

Will the 2 GB MozyHome free offering still be available?
Yes, we’re still pursuing our goal to “back up the world”!

Are you still offering discounts on one- and two-year subscriptions with the new pricing plans?
Yes, an annual subscription includes 1 month free while a two-year plan includes 3 months for free. In addition, existing customers who re-enroll in one or two-year plans will receive a one-month extension to their subscription as a customer loyalty bonus.

How do the new plans save me money?
With the 125 GB plan, you can back up 3 computers for $9.99 and add additional computers for $2 per month. As a result, most customers backing up 3 or more computers will be paying less under the new pricing model, as the old price was $4.95 per computer.

My suggested new plan costs more than what I wish to pay. What can I do?
Prior to your Unlimited plan expiring, you can adjust your suggested renewal plan by logging in to Mozy.com and clicking “My Plan”. Please note that these changes won’t take effect until your next renewal date. If you need to make changes before then, you can contact Mozy support via live online chat or by submitting a support case. Instructions on contacting support can be found here

Can I make adjustments to my current unlimited plan?
Because the unlimited offering has been discontinued, we are not updating these plans. This includes adding additional computers to an account or renewing into another Unlimited monthly, annual, or biennial subscription term. To make changes to your plan, such as adding computers, you must select one of the new plans.

If I’m a Mozy customer outside of the U.S., do I need to select one of the new MozyHome plans?
The new plans apply to all MozyHome customers signed up through Mozy.com.

Will the new MozyHome plans be available on Mozy’s international websites?
These new plans will also be available on Mozy’s international websites in the coming months.

I didn’t buy my backup directly from Mozy but the client on my desktop says ‘powered by Mozy’ will the new price changes affect me?
Customers whose backup is ‘powered by Mozy’ have their pricing set by their provider and are not affected by these changes.
